The Alphabet of Spiritual Literacy

spiritual practices from all traditions . . . the letters to know to read the world spiritually and to spell meaning in daily life

Dr. Amy Fuller's insight:

This is a really cool resource! The Alphabet of Spiritual Literacycreated by  Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat is a list of beautiful words which are actually spiritual practices from A to Z from all traditions. In the right column, each word has its own explanation with quotations, stories, books, book excerpts, film, music, art, spiritual exercises, etc. Blessings! Amy Fuller PhD

Practicing the Presence of God - Brother Lawrence (Full Audiobook on Youtube)

Practicing the Presence of God - Brother Lawrence full audio
Dr. Amy Fuller's insight:

A beautiful presentation of this classic book available to watch and  listen to FREE on you tube!

To read the free text:  http://www.ccel.org/ccel/lawrence/practice

Brother Lawrence resolved to make the “Love of God” the purpose of all his actions. He found such satisfaction in this practice that he felt the same intensity of the presence of God when he was working in the kitchen as he did at daily prayers. He purposed all actions for the love, praise and joy of God.

This is mindfulness from a Christian perspective.

Welcoming Prayer: Consent on the Go--Spirituality & Practice: E-Courses

Welcoming Prayer: Consent on the Go--Spirituality & Practice: E-Courses | Meditative Prayer | Scoop.it

Welcoming Prayer or Prayer on the Go Online Course / Online Retreat

An online retreat on a method of consenting to God's presence and action in our physical and emotional reactions to events and situations in daily life.

The Welcoming Prayer is a method of consenting to God’s presence and action in our physical and emotional reactions to events and situations in daily life. If Centering Prayer (or another daily prayer) is practiced for one hour of the day, the Welcoming Prayer is for the other 23 hours. It is a "letting go" in the present moment, in the midst of the activity of ordinary life. It helps to dismantle the emotional programs of the false-self system and to heal the wounds of a lifetime by addressing them where they are stored — in the body.

Dr. Amy Fuller's insight:

Welcoming prayer is like mindfulness for from a Christian contempative perspective. This is on online retreat that starts tomorrow, August 5th with online collaboration from other participants in the course. It has videos, regular emails, audios and teleconferences with the e-course leaders.

I just signed up for this course that starts tomorrow (it is offered on-demand regularly) and I wanted to invite you to join in! Check it out: http://www.spiritualityandpractice.com/ecourses/ecourses.php?id=156&key=spws

Abide in Prayer - Soul Shepherding

Abide in Prayer - Soul Shepherding | Meditative Prayer | Scoop.it

Maybe people that we work with in spiritual direction/mentoring find it hard to be still with Jesus. When they get alone and quiet themselves for prayer they have trouble settling down. Their bodies are antsy. Their minds are restless and wander from one thought to another.

Using short phrases from Scripture is a way to practice our abiding in prayer. It’s a way into contemplative prayer in which we seek to be still with Jesus and grow in his peace and power.

Christian Mindfulness?

Christian Mindfulness? | Meditative Prayer | Scoop.it

For those unfamiliar with the term, mindfulness is the English term for Buddhist meditation. The practice found its way into the therapy world in large part due to its demonstrated efficacy in stress reduction and preventing relapse of clinical depression. The latter finding came as a great surprise in the most unexpected of places – the stereotypically stuffy, bow tie-wearing British accent-donning academic world of Oxford University. The academic world, which is leery of all things religious, made the leap of accepting and promoting a religious practice in treatment of depression because they recognized that it works. What about the Christian world?

Dr. Amy Fuller's insight:

Thoughtful perspective on mindfulness and meditative perspective on Rampant Theology. ..

  • "Spiritual discernment calls for us to move beyond submission to simple worldly categories like (“Buddhist” and “Christian”) to functionally proclaiming Jesus as Lord."

The Heart of Meditation

The Heart of Meditation | Meditative Prayer | Scoop.it

The soul is already clear about who we are and what we want: it’s the mind that gets in the way, the intellect. As we connect with our own essence through meditation, we enliven its intelligence, and our connection to it.

Meditation is simply a time in which to plant a seed. Pay attention to the desires, practice, be a good listener, stay in your integrity, and pay attention to the clues along the way, and your desires will manifest.
