The insights into being a Chair come from the comments to Leo's article.
Vistage was started by Bob Nourse in 1957 and back then known as TEC (The Executive Committee)
For me I have gotten away from the word "expert." I use the term resource as a resource has expertise that he/she shares.
The problem I have found with people who are brought in as experts, is that when things go wrong, it is the expert that gets blamed.
The role of the Chair as he/she works on themselves to become a world-class human, they also share their journey by challenging their Vistage group to do the same in their lives. It is about creating the high performance organization by making it necessary and possible for each person to become better tomorrow at what they do and who they are than they were today. It is holding oneself and the organization both responsible and accountable for doing what needs to be done to create their vision by accomplishing what needs to be accomplished to make it happen.
There are never excuses because in an organization of competent people, there are only results.
